BESPOKE elements are a fundamental design component of any creation of Morgan Madison Design. These custom elements often have a deeper symbolic meaning or purpose that goes beyond aesthetics. These elements are usually among our client’s most treasured pieces within the spaces we design for them. They are beautiful and functional and made to fit a unique function, space, or aesthetic.
THE JAMES SOFA
It’s elegant, refined, swanky and classic. It probably prefers things shaken, not stirred (wink wink).
While clearly the chicest of sofas, we wanted also to make sure that its details set it apart. With a handmade solid bronze tray inset along the back of each component, one has the perfect place to set down a drink while lounging. A subtly graceful hump along either long edge of the tray ensures that no glass (read: martini glass) is errantly placed.
“I wanted the simplest, dullest, plainest-sounding name I could find, ‘James Bond’ was much better than something more interesting, like ‘Peregrine Carruthers’. Exotic things would happen to and around him, but he would be a neutral figure—an anonymous, blunt instrument wielded by a government department.”
Deep enough to sit on comfortably cross-legged; firm but with enough give; the seat holds its top line and looks just as clean and tailored after you get up as when you sat down. Its feathers won’t be ruffled. Its chicness will not be compromised. It strikes a perfect balance of cold and cordial, masculine and feminine, bluntness and mystery.
Clean, modern, but timeless, and oh-so-usable.
